...At work, he gives no less than a 100%.  “If you enjoy what you do and decide to be the best, the problem is already half done.  If to be the best is in every activity you do is in your system, the balancing act becomes easyAPT holds directorship and president position in more than 30 companies mostly under the Transnational Diversified group where he spent almost 30 years assuming various positions. He was instrumental in the growth of TDG’s logistic division including the establishment of Yusen Air and Sea Service Phils in 1992 and Emery Transnational in 1986 presently known as Menlo Logistics.  These two freight forwarding companies are consistently among the top 10 in the industry.  His leadership has propelled these two companies to greater heights.  His work ethics are admirable.  He starts working as early as 6:00 a.m. and can end at the time only God knows.  In fact, he pioneered the 7:00 a.m. meeting with Yusen and Emery.  APT was instrumental in making these two freight forwarding companies earned awards from every year from various airlines.  Yusen, in fact is the only forwarding company to receive the Diamond Award from Philippine Airlines in its almost 67 years of existence.

When APT retired from TDG early this year, everybody thought he would slow down.  But slowing down are two words that we would never find in his vocabulary.  He just refused to stop.  “I wanted to do so much.  If only I had more than 24 hours… I wanted to do more.  Study more. Get involved some more.   He remains to be the president of Yusen Air and Sea Service Phils. However, what occupies most of his time now is being a father of the family.  He wanted to leave a legacy to his sons.  Something that would inculcate to them the values of hard work, honesty and integrity he is loved and known for.  Thus, he helped established various family businesses and coached his two sons Paul Louie and Jose Arturo of the intricacies of the cargo and logistics business.  He loves to teach and to share but he prefers to do that in executive meetings.

APT is an impeccable speaker.  He speaks straight from the heart and can make anyone listen and stare at him in awe.  He is far from being dull.  He can be very straightforward at time but never tactless.  He has a unique way of pushing his people to the limits but is very generous in giving them their due reward.  There are even times that he has to give from his own personal pocket.  His generosity extends outside of his family and work.  APT and family sponsor seminarians in memory of his late son Mark Perry who wanted to become a priest.  You would also be surprised to know that APT himself spent one and a half year at the seminary!  Aside from family and work, he is a voracious reader and a passionate golfer.  His golf prowess is a manifestation of his passion, leadership, keenness in details and the brilliance of his mind.

With the kind of schedule and work load he has, many of you probably wondered where he draws all his strength.  Despite the huge amount of time he devotes to work, you can look at his children Barrie, Powie, Jayart and Finina and you can say that he and his lovely wife Marisol Maddela Tugade did a very good job in raising them.  APT considers his family his most priceless possession.  In fact he finds rest in the middle of the week with just one look at his first grandson’s picture.  He takes pride in all the members of his family and offers all his achievements to them.

APT believes in the capacity of the Filipinos to change.  The Filipino can change from good to best.  I still believe in the resiliency, the virtues and the virtuosity of the Filipino.  But you have to put role models that say this and preach this and teach this by the way of personal example.  He could easily be an excellent government official.  For he lives his life with purpose and meaning, always willing to share, teach and lead by example.  But for now, the cargo industry is just happy and contented to have him.  He is a living legacy of what a true cargo professional is all about….brilliant, passionate, creative, hardworking and honest. He is the man who espoused creativity, passion and brilliance to our industry otherwise known for its technicalities and structure……  This man is Atty. Arthur “Art” P. Tugade.
