Mr. Kobuta Masahiko

Friday afternoon, about 4:00 pm on November 19, 2004, Mr. Kobuta Masahiko, a Japanese national, was quietly having his snack at Orange Brutus at Marina Mall, when somebody tapped his right shoulder. When he looked on who could that be, another guy snatched his clutch bag placed at the left of his table.  Five youngsters ran out to the door, the four took the first get-away taxi and the last one took the other. It was this second taxi that Mr. Masahiko tried to stop for his passport was in that bag, but, alas, the taxi side swept him. Wounded, bleeding and confused, he was very helpless.

Without a second thought, I ran to him, identified myself and showed him my Yusen ID.  I immediately saw relief and trust in his eyes. I showed him to my car, and took him to the nearest police station. I only left him after he was in the safe custody of a police officer.

Mr. Kobuta Masahiko was so grateful of this gesture. He said he knows Yusen in Japan. I left him a business card, telling him to call me if he still needs further assistance. Yes! he got in touch with me after a week. He called our office and inviting me for lunch or dinner. I would have been very glad for that, but I was having meeting with Mitsumi.

I never thought about it anymore, when just before Christmas, he called me again inviting me to attend their Christmas party, I was in Manila at that time!

Mr. Kobuta Masahiko happened to be the Marketing Director of Golden Calesa, a KTV Bar inside Waterfront Mactan. He was only few weeks in this assignment when this incident happened.

It is very unfortunate that anybody would be subjected to this kind of traumatic experience. Nevertheless, it is also unlocks an unbelievable courage we have within us to make sure that life and dignity is preserved.

December 12, 2004 was a day of merriment and thanksgiving for us here in Cebu when we celebrated our Christmas Party at the Camp Z, Mandaue City. It was a night full of fun and surprises and a refreshing moment for all after a year of hardwork.

The program was graced by our VIP guests from Manila namely: Shimada-san, EBT, FCP, DAP, CRiofrir & ICabrito. As the party theme goes "Colors and Beats that spell teamwork in 2004", we divided ourselves in 6 teams representing different colors of red, orange, blue, beige, yellow and green.  The night was filled with colorful presentations and group games participated by the different teams who showed their prowess in dancing and acting to the tune of the various 2004 novelty hit songs.  It was a great sight to see that all exposed their hidden talents at everyone's delight.  The group who shone were the Green (CS Dept), Orange(YBI) and Blue(Operations) teams who won the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize respectively.

The night continued to sparkle when Ma’am Lydia announced that EBT accumulated Php 115,000 for the raffle courtesy of our generous executives from Manila and Cebu of which everybody got a share.  It was a very fulfilling evening as the spirit of teamwork was truly alive and it zeroed out any uncertainty in our minds, for whatever obstacles and barriers that may come along our way, the colors that we wear as a team and the unified beat that we dance each day will lead us to a successful endeavor for all.

This is the spirit that lives in us in 2004 and will continue to guide us in 2005.
