  10 Ways to Overcome Stress

  1. Acceptance.  Sometimes we have to accept that we cannot change everything.

  1. Accept your own limitation.

  1. Be assertive.  You have the right to say “No”.  Have the courage of your own convictions.  You are entitled to state what you want and how you feel,  State it specifically and directly.

  1. Closure.  You may have the tendency to start things and not finish them.  By not completing task you feel like a failure.  Make a list of outstanding things and slowly work your way through all the loose ends.

  1. Exercise.  There is no need for pent up energy!  It is not necessary to train for London marathon, but an invigorating walk or few laps in the pool at the local gym leaves you feeling refreshed and relaxed.

  1. Half empty or half full?  Learn to find the positive in every stressful situation.  If you look for good things you will find them-work on having opposite attitude.

  1. Look after your health.  Get enough rest, eat well and exercise.

  1. “Me” time.  We all spend time catering to everyone else’s wants and need.  For a change spoil yourself to whatever makes you relax and unwind.  It may be a warm bubble bath, quiet music or simply curling up with a good book.

  1. Talk to someone that you can trust.  Speak to a trusted colleague, friend, or partner can help put problems in perspective.  It may not solve the immediate problem but it does get it off your chest.

  1. Laugh!  Laughter is the best medicine.  Laughing 100 times = 10 minutes on the rowing machine or 15 minutes on the exercise bike.  Laughter also lowers the blood pressure and increases oxygen to the blood which assents healing.

  The Cow and the Pig

Old Man :  "Why is it" said the rich man to his minister, "that people call me stingy when everyone knows that when I die I'm leaving everything to the church?"

Minister  :  "Let me tell you a fable about the pig and the cow" said the minister.

The pig was unpopular while the cow was beloved. This puzzled the pig.  "People speak warmly of your gentle nature and your sorrowful eyes", the pig said to the cow. "They think you're generous because each day you give them milk and cream.

But what about me?  I give them everything I have.  I give bacon and  ham. I provide bristles for brushes. They even pickle my feet! Yet no one likes me. Why is that?"   "Do you know what the cow answered?" said the minister.  The cow said, "perhaps it is because I give while I'm still living."
